I World Symposium on Neglected Disea
ses

Dear participants,

With immense joy, I invite you all to participate in the 5th Brazilian Symposium on Neglected Diseases (SBDN) and the 1st World Symposium on Neglected Diseases (I WSND). Since its inception in 2014, SBDN has played a crucial role as a meeting point for discussions and advancements in understanding neglected diseases, including neglected populations.

Throughout previous editions, SBDN has expanded its horizons, embracing a variety of topics relevant to One Health, and emphasizing the importance of an integrated approach to complex challenges.

We are proud to present, in 2024, not only the 5th SBDN but also the 1st WSND, in collaboration with renowned institutions around the world. This event promises to be a significant milestone in our commitment to research, innovation, and the promotion of global health. This year's theme, "Reflections Imposed from the COVID-19 Pandemic," not only reflects the reality we face but also highlights the resilience and adaptability of the scientific community in the face of unprecedented challenges.

Alongside global experts, we hope that the discussions will not only enrich scientific knowledge but also guide concrete actions to strengthen research, improve clinical practice, and promote public health. Moreover, at this crucial moment, we cannot ignore the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on neglected diseases. This symposium seeks not only to analyze this impact but also to update and qualify healthcare professionals, promote discussions on public health policies, and expand discussions on critical issues related to neglected diseases, in total alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed by the United Nations (UN).

The participation of researchers from different regions and institutions, coupled with the presence of healthcare and education professionals, will ensure a rich exchange of experiences and perspectives. We believe that together, we can make a difference in the lives of communities affected by neglected diseases, moving towards a healthier and more equitable future.

May this event be a catalyst for significant advancements in research and tackling neglected diseases, reinforcing our commitment to science, global health, and sustainable development.

Our team is eager to meet you, to take the first step together towards contributing to the change we wish to see in the world. We believe that none of us is as good as all of us together. So, we look forward to welcoming you to share scientific knowledge and enjoy warm cheese bread and a delightful Brazilian coffee amid the general mountains, in an environment full of conversation and comfort.

Let's head to Minas Gerais?

A strong and affectionate hug

President of the 5th SBDN and 1st WSND
